Yu Ti is pushed into the water by her spoiled younger brother.
When she wakes up, everything has changed beyond recognition.
She has been asleep for three years, while another version of herself has been out and about in the world.
She has forgotten everything that happened during those three years.
What frightens Yu Ti even more is that the other her got married during that time.
Her husband is Xiao Yunzheng, the renowned General of the Cavalry. Rumor has it that he kills without mercy, lacks all human feeling, and has no idea how to treat a woman tenderly.
–
Yu Ti is gentle and mild-tempered, nothing like the other her. Xiao Yunzheng soon notices the difference.
He grabs her by the throat and demands to know where she has hidden the real Yu Ti.
Yu Ti wants to tell him that she is the real Yu Ti.
But seeing Xiao Yunzheng so beside himself with rage, she suddenly cannot bring herself to say it.
Whether she lives or dies does not really matter.
–
Ever since Yu Ti was old enough to understand, she has always heard her parents say, “Your life is worth little. You must do everything you can to secure a good future for your youngest brother.”
Later, the person she loved as a girl told her, “Your life is worth little. Why are you occupying her body?”
Xiao Yunzheng forces Yu Ti to swallow bitter pills, tormenting her in hopes of getting her to give the other Yu Ti back.
Yu Ti takes it all without complaint.
She really is a timid person. She never dares to meet his eyes, speaks in a soft voice, and always feels inferior. Her fear and insecurity are impossible to hide.
–
Yu Ti looks so frail that no one would expect her to take a blade for a schoolteacher.
Xiao Yunzheng returns and captures the teacher, threatening her: “You like him, do you? I’ll make you watch him die right in front of you, so you can taste my pain.”
Yu Ti faints again.
Unable to endure Xiao Yunzheng’s erratic torment any longer, she finally finds a way to force the other her to come out.
When she wakes again, Xiao Yunzheng looks into the other woman’s eyes, knowing he no longer has to put up with a foolish, ignorant Yu Ti.
Yet only belatedly does he realize that he feels not the slightest bit of joy.

1. Both leads are each other’s only partners.
2. This is the kind of old-school melodramatic angst I love: an absolutely outrageous, thunderous, all-consuming storm of melodrama.
I’ll add detailed content warnings after the story starts.
