1. The Qing family in Qingshi Town has a secret everyone knows.
The gossipy aunties say something must be wrong with the family graves.
Grandma Qing never married, yet had a daughter.
Her daughter followed in her footsteps, becoming pregnant before marriage and giving birth to Qing Yu.
Not long after the college entrance exams ended, Qing Yu returned to town and became the center of gossip.
"Come on, let's make a bet!"
A group of young thugs crowded together. "Let's bet on how long it'll take before someone knocks Qing Yu up!"
"I say two weeks!" "Dog's got a quick turnaround!"
The next second, someone smashed through the old wooden door and charged inside.
A flurry of powerful punches rained down on the man's face.
"Holy crap, Zhong Shufeng!"
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
The people in the room tumbled into a fight.
No one saw Qing Yu, hidden in a dark corner, with tears in her eyes.
2. That night, Qing Yu and Zhong Shufeng lay on the rooftop terrace. The stuffy breeze made them feel languid, and a pile of empty cans lay scattered at their feet.
Qing Yu was still thinking about her grandmother and mother, and she couldn't make sense of the old mystery that had troubled her for years.
"Grandma and Mom were both wonderful people." The popsicle in Qing Yu's hand melted into water, dripping down her wrist and all over the ground. "So why do good people never get happy endings?"
"Zhong Shufeng, I'm starting to wonder, too."
"What kind of curse was put on the women in my family?"
A long silence fell in the dark, with countless stars close by. The boy rolled over, his burning gaze settling on her face. It seemed he had been thinking about it for a very long time.
"Qing Yu, why don't you choose me?"
"I'm sure I can break the curse on you."
"The Foehn effect in love is probably just your unconditional devotion. Like a relentless current of hot air sinking lower and lower, it comes rushing in, swift as lightning and fierce as the wind."
