Xu Haifeng, a PhD from an agricultural sciences institute, transmigrates into a novel set in the 1970s. He becomes a woman who steals the male lead, steals his business, and ultimately ruins her whole family: the villainous foil character.
Xu Haifeng: ?????
Xu Haifeng tosses aside the basket of black-market goods. "This generation of villains is going to learn from me how it's done!"
We're all sent-down youths, and my dad's a professor at an agricultural sciences institute. Why am I a disposable character? Hah!
Studied agriculture but not farming, and instead copying the male lead's buy-low-sell-high schemes? Hah!
So...
While the male lead and the other sent-down youths look on in shock and confusion, Xu Haifeng turns around, gets along famously with the villagers of Xinping, and becomes the village's newly appointed brigade leader!
A new composting method: solves Xinping's problems with poor, compacted soil, and boosts grain yields by 100%.
A new method for pruning peach trees: increases the yield per acre, and the supply-and-marketing cooperative director drives over in the middle of the night to buy the harvest.
A new secret to raising chickens: sends egg production soaring. Xinping climbs out of poverty and becomes the wealthiest village in the area.
So...
While the male lead, Zhu Hongzhi, is still hiding from the inspection squad in the black market...
Xu Haifeng is already sitting in the village committee office, sipping tea and eating peaches, megaphone in hand as he hands out money to the villagers.
When the college entrance exams are reinstated, Xu Haifeng gets into Capital Agricultural University...
The villagers of Xinping are utterly heartbroken, crying their eyes out.
Villager A: "Captain Xu, we love you! What are we gonna do when you leave? Those little punks Zhu Hongzhi and the others are good for nothing but eating. They can't even clean the chicken coop properly when you tell them to."
Zhu Hongzhi: "Fine, fine, go on and gang up on me, why don't you?"
Zhu Hongzhi, angrily: "You didn't look at me like this when you told me to sell eggs!"
Villager B: "Brigade leader, the village chief's old and half-blind, the village committee secretary can't see or hear straight. You're all we've got! Once you finish school, you have to come back and be our captain again!"
Village chief: ???
Village committee secretary: ???
Fine, fine, keep putting us down, why don't you?
The village chief and committee secretary shut their eyes, pouted, and burst into tears. "Yes, yes, they're right! Comrade Xu, you have to remember to come back! Look at us, we're so old we can barely see! When you finish school, you have to come back and help us two old folks!"
Ten years later.
Xu Haifeng, holding a megaphone: "If you're not eager to collect your money, there's something wrong with your attitude! Don't make the village secretary come to your door every time we hand out money. The village secretary is busy!"
PS: 1. This is mainly a 1970s farming story, with a plot-focused male lead and a satisfying, fast-paced narrative. There's little romance, and the female lead is a pig-raising girl (? ).
2. The focus is on rural agriculture and poverty alleviation in the 1970s, and the story of how the village becomes prosperous.
