The year Lin Jianxing transferred to Baijiang High School, she also moved in with Qin Yu.

Qin Yu took off his jacket and draped it over her, then casually asked,

"What would you do with a fragment?"

"It would mean my wish came true!"

"How many wishes do you have?"

"Three."

By the time the head teacher's flashlight swept over them, the hem of Lin Jianxing's uniform was already holding three "meteor shower fragments."

They were paper stars folded from candy wrappers.

In the line of students punished for suspected puppy love, Lin Jianxing clutched Qin Yu's jacket, while Qin Yu held her pink water bottle.

The onlookers finally understood: so we were the joke all along!

Many years later, on the night before Lin Jianxing moved out of the Qin family home, she found an open notebook in the corner of the storage room.

The handwriting was Qin Yu's, each stroke seeming to hold the restraint peculiar to a young man:

At that moment, I finally understood: as cosmic dust, 13.8 billion years old, burned for us, even astrophysics had to yield to a beating heart.

The date on the entry was the night they watched the meteor shower on the mountain.

If she had turned back further, she would have found the notebook filled with proof that Qin Yu had fallen for her many years before she fell for him.
