Xu Qianqian is an intern at the Mysterious Affairs Bureau. She was supposed to get a cannon-fodder script, suffer through all kinds of tragic melodrama, shed a perfectly timed tear in front of the camera, and then die, becoming the idealized beauty remembered in the background.
After all, an idealized beauty has three defining traits: she is beautiful, kind, and dies young.
The reason I say “supposed to” is that, fresh out of school and starting her internship, she was recruited to a strange place that seemed to have something to do with terrifying ghosts and monsters.
But in principle... these two things seem much the same. She still has to play a character who is about to die.
“Ah... I guess this still counts as having a job?”
Xu Qianqian is always optimistic.
At any rate, she’s an idealized beauty. The sooner she dies, the sooner she gets her last meal, and the sooner she gets paid.
It’s all acting, after all. The details may change, but the basic principles stay the same.
But every time she’s about to die, some obstacle gets in the way. She’s supposed to be an idealized beauty who dies young, so why does she always make it to the end? What on earth is going on?
Someone might grab her hand with red-rimmed eyes and say,
“I knew it was you. You still took that fatal blow for me...”
Someone else might make her an obsessive promise.
“I’ll find a way to bring you back to life. Please, you have to wait for me!”
And someone might hold her and sob uncontrollably.
“So you really are still here. This time, I’m the one taking you home!”
Xu Qianqian is baffled. That’s her last meal, so why is everyone fighting over it? She’s supposed to be playing an idealized beauty who dies young, right?
These people are so strange!
She thinks she’s a tragic-melodrama actress who wandered into a ghost story, unaware that, in the hearts of those who cannot let go, she is a light that fell into the abyss.
Their only mission on this journey is to pull her out of the cage called a “dungeon” and bring her safely home.
Just as she once told everyone with a smile, back when she was still a player,
“I’m your captain, so of course I’m going to bring you all home.”
The blurb and title are not final and may be changed later!
