They first met as children in an unnamed mountain village.
Little Meng Ting told the little immortal Xue Yin that the world beyond the mountains was vast, and that one day, when they had the chance, they would go and see it together.
Their time in the mountains passed in the blink of an eye. After Meng Ting and Granny Hua died one after the other, the courtyard grew lonely once more.
Xue Yin waited ten years, and at last, Meng Ting returned, with no memory of her.
