Xue Su was an ordinary cultivator with no particular fame.
In her eyes, aside from the striking face her parents had given her, the greatest stroke of luck in her life had been getting picked up by her master at the age of eight, sparing her the fate of being sold to another family as a child bride. Unfortunately, compared with her face, her aptitude was truly... pitiful.
All right, Xue Su had thought back then.
She accepted that her life as the senior-most disciple would perhaps be spent working diligently at her cultivation, cleaning up her master's messes without complaint, and raising the junior brothers and sisters her master had brought home after picking them up, since he loved collecting strays but couldn't be bothered to look after them.
Until one day, the mountain fell.
Her master and junior brothers and sisters were killed in battle one after another. All they left her were a few battered things that could barely be called "relics":
A scabbard, a shattered mirror, a hot-tempered snake, a notebook full of chicken-scratch writing, and a bloodstained bell.
And the one who wiped out her entire sect and killed her friends and family was none other than the famous progenitor of all the demons and unorthodox cultivators under heaven, the Lord of Chaos, Ying Jun.

At first, everyone thought that when the beautiful woman with a poker-faced, icy expression said she would fight her way through Lingyuan and destroy the Lord of Chaos, Ying Jun, it was probably just the usual posturing any righteous cultivator liked to spout. Surely she couldn't mean it.
After all, besides that, she often said, "Too bad I was born with mediocre aptitude..."
"I was born with mediocre aptitude," Xue Su said.
"If only I had half my second junior brother's intelligence and open-mindedness, or my third junior brother's strong physique; if only I had my fourth junior sister's silver tongue, my fifth junior brother's dual cultivation in poison and gu, my sixth junior sister's extensive knowledge, or my seventh junior sister's peerless footwork."
"If I had even half of what they have, this fight/battle/... would be easier to win."
"But even if it's hard, it still has to be fought."
"Anyone who breaks into my home deserves to die."
"It's either him or me."
"..."
Everyone: Wait, what? You really mean it?!

Reading guide:
1. The heroine is the one and only senior-most disciple. Su Su is the best.
2. There are multiple male leads, with every type you could want. But for who the male lead is, see rule one: whoever Su Su likes is the male lead. The male lead has never laid a hand on Su Su and will always put her first. The ending is one-on-one.
3. My own take on cultivation, entirely made up. Not professionally researched, and beware of wild worldbuilding. Writing advice politely declined. The principle of this story: as long as it's fun, that's enough.
