Younger man | Longtime scheming | Healing | He secretly loves her | White moonlight
Earnest, clever, and careful younger man × Patient, scheming, and in control
"Look! It's that idiot!"
Sitting alone on a rockery at her granny's home in the countryside, watching the dry grass, barren fields, and her peers running away, Shen Zhu knew she was a bad woman.
Because she was always jealous of one person.
The day she met Song Ying was beneath a skyscraper that seemed to reach the clouds.
She wore a tender pink cake dress and held the hands of a boy and a girl, looking as warm and lovely as a painting.
Shen Zhu lowered her head, fingers pinching the edge of her yellowing white dress.
The creases were etched into her eyes, like the winding mountain road from Granny's house to the city.
Song Ying was her younger sister.
The boy and girl were her parents.
When they were formally introduced, Song Ying took her hand. It was warm.
"The gift box has a welcome present I brought for you. Take a look, Sis. Do you like it?"
Shen Zhu lowered her gaze and saw the familiar cake dress.
From that day on, Shen Zhu began to feel hungry.
"She's a relative who's staying with us for a few days. She's not quite right in the head, so don't bully her, all right?" The familiar voice was perfunctory.
Shen Zhu looked up. Among the people before her, the first person she noticed was a stranger.
The boy, tall and straight as a poplar, wore a crisp white shirt and knee-length shorts. Two fingers hooked through a tennis racket as he leaned against the net fence.
His head was lowered, but she heard his unmistakable snort of laughter.
She wasn't willing to accept it.
The boy was called Fu Shiyan. He was Song Ying's childhood friend and lived next door.
He was also the sweetheart she was always talking about.
So Shen Zhu thought, Whatever my sister has, I want it too.
The big city, her parents' love, and Fu Shiyan.
-
"Move." The boy's voice was cold, his attitude far harsher than it was with anyone else.
Shen Zhu's heart tightened like the handkerchief Granny had wrung out. Tears fell like pearls from a broken string.
Shen Zhu didn't know where she found the strength. She shoved him into a corner and pressed her lips to Fu Shiyan's.
They were soft, with a faint woody scent.
"Behave and do as I say, and I won't pick on you."
This was the kind of domineering romance she'd learned about in a love story she'd borrowed from a friend.
She'd heard that people who seemed proper on the surface were into this sort of thing.
Other people's childhood sweethearts were like blocks of ice.
Keep warming them, and they melt into water, taking on your warmth until they're soft and warm.
They even learn to cooperate.
"Look, Song Ying's over there. If you kiss me, she'll be furious."
Shen Zhu rose onto her toes and kissed him.
But when she touched her swollen lips in front of the mirror, she felt that something wasn't quite right.
-
Some time later, Song Ying ran to Fu Shiyan and complained through her tears.
Tears streaked her rosy cheeks, and her makeup was running.
"Shen Zhu stole you from me because she's jealous that everyone likes me best."
"She doesn't care about you at all. I'm the one who's always loved you!"
Fu Shiyan watched Song Ying cry, his expression cool.
But his gaze drifted, almost without his realizing it, toward Shen Zhu, who was hiding in a corner and staring at him miserably.
Out of nowhere, he said something utterly sincere: "Have I ever told you that your older sister is really adorable?"
Song Ying froze, staring at him in disbelief. She could hardly believe what she'd heard.
Fu Shiyan paid her no more attention.
He strode over, wrapped an arm around Shen Zhu, and carried her away.
Her childhood sweetheart had always treated her well. As he kept pampering her, Shen Zhu finally understood.
She could earn money, and love could surround her too.
Her devoted childhood sweetheart belonged to her alone.
[Bonus Scene]
As they packed to move after getting married, the two of them sorted through their belongings together.
The old notebook slipped from their hands, and a registration photo fell out.
It had a blue background. Shen Zhu was in high school, with a trace of childishness still on her face.
Fu Shiyan appeared behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist and resting his head in the hollow of her neck.
"What should I do? Zhuzhu found out."
