Everyone in Gotham knew that Bruce Wayne's daughter, Alice Wayne, was his precious darling, Gotham's uncrowned princess.
Even though he had so many adopted sons, he treated his daughter extremely well.
That was because she had spent the first half of her life in the slums, where she had a very hard time.
Perhaps only Alice herself knew how out of place she felt in this family. Maybe it was just instinct, but the rest of her family seemed to share a secret. They protected that secret together, leaving Alice on the outside.
And her father, who was so sweet-talking in public, seemed unable to find the right words in real life. He treated Alice so well that she almost began to believe she had a family too.
When she was six, she said to a stranger by the road, with the heedlessness of a child, “Your husband is in danger.” That very night, the stranger died, and Alice's mother had to flee the place with her in a hurry.
Her intuition had brought her a lot of trouble.
Even after her father brought her home, she still thought it was a nuisance.
If she didn't have that intuition, she wouldn't suspect that her family had secrets. She could comfortably believe her family loved her, and that she hadn't been left out.
In a family full of geniuses, she seemed utterly ordinary. She wasn't good at school, wasn't very smart, and had no other talents. Even her only redeeming feature, her looks, paled beside everyone else's.
Sometimes Alice wondered if her father would praise her if only she were a little more exceptional. Other times, she wondered why she couldn't turn into a bird and leave this world behind.
Then one night, an accident sent her soul to another world, a fantastical realm filled with magic. On that continent,
Alice met her teacher and her companions. Her nightly journeys taught her how to grow up and become a proper mage, protecting the continent alongside her friends and teacher.
Alice thought she would stay there forever. She felt no attachment to this world at all, and believed her existence probably didn't matter to her family.
Just as that continent had been saved, Alice opened her eyes again and saw a familiar ceiling.
Had it all just been a dream?
Then she discovered that her magic was real.
From then on, Alice had a secret of her own, one that belonged only to her: she was a great hero who had saved a magical world!
Alice also began hiding how much her personality had changed from her family.
Then one day, a villain named Bane suddenly appeared. Alfred was nearly thrown off a building by him. In that instant, Alice kicked off the ground, and a pair of pure white wings emerged from her back.
She caught Alfred.
Right before Batman and her brothers' eyes.
