Synopsis
💛 An apparently harmless, honest guy who holds grudges and knows how to coax people, a timid bottom
💛 An apparently heaven-blessed, cocky top who is actually soft-hearted, a devoted romantic, and a succubus who falls for his own act
Chu Yao is a succubus with a handsome, sharply angular face, and he stands out even among other succubi. But his personality makes him an odd one out.
He can't accept the idea of selling his body just to survive. It disgusts him, so he never accepts anyone's advances and keeps everyone at arm's length.
As a result, ever since he came of age, he's suffered the backlash of his nature. Once, he nearly bled to death, but he still never considered changing his ways.
*
After an accident, Chu Yao was taken home by Wen Yan.
At first, Chu Yao thought this seemingly defenseless man was working with the traitors. But as they spent time together, he realized he was mistaken. Just as he began to let down his guard, he discovered that Wen Yan liked him.
A person's intense love can have a powerful effect even on a succubus. Because of Wen Yan's devotion, Chu Yao couldn't even leave his home. The moment he thought about it, the backlash would strike.
Chu Yao began treating Wen Yan cruelly.
He dismissed the carefully prepared meals Wen Yan cooked as worthless, so Wen Yan would make them all over again.
He said Wen Yan's rented apartment was expensive and badly located, freezing in winter and sweltering in summer, and that living there was torture. Wen Yan said he'd pay to find Chu Yao somewhere else to stay.
When Wen Yan came home late after working overtime, Chu Yao accused him of deliberately keeping him from sleeping and resting. Wen Yan then decided to skip dinner and go to bed hungry.
Wen Yan never got angry, while Chu Yao found it harder and harder to say anything harsh to him. Every time he saw Wen Yan looking sad, his heart would inexplicably ache.
Only belatedly did Chu Yao feel an emotion he'd never experienced in his life: regret.
In the bone-chilling wind, beneath the dim lights, Chu Yao held Wen Yan close.
Wen Yan was still trembling slightly, having been so overwhelmed by emotion just moments earlier.
Looking down at Wen Yan's profile, Chu Yao's heart raced. The words slipped out before he could stop them. "Would you like to... be with me?"
Wen Yan didn't answer.
Chu Yao felt the person in his arms stiffen. The next moment, Wen Yan rose onto his toes and kissed him.
Chu Yao instinctively kissed him back.

Ever since he was little, everyone had called Wen Yan a sweet, sensible, unfortunate child. Wen Yan didn't see himself that way, but he'd never argued.
After all his relatives passed away, only two things remained in his life: repaying a debt of gratitude and going abroad to continue his studies.
So when he ran into the senior who had once helped him, he brought him home without a second thought and took good care of him. The senior's temper could be good one moment and bad the next, but thanks to Wen Yan's efforts, their relationship began to improve.
One day, a friend suddenly told him that he'd mistaken the senior for someone else. The person he'd been caring for was Chu Yu's twin brother, Chu Yao.
After a moment of confusion came anger and panic.
He was angry because Chu Yao hadn't done anything to him, yet acted as if he had every right to order him around. He was panicked because, back in college, he had heard what other people said about Chu Yao: bad-tempered, vindictive, demanding, and merciless toward anyone who offended him.
Wen Yan couldn't afford to provoke someone like that. He could only stew in silence, then try to think of a tactful way to get this formidable man to leave.
An accident came before he could put his plan into action. When his biological father showed up demanding money, Wen Yan wanted them to go down together. But Chu Yao stopped him and asked if he wanted to be friends with benefits. Wen Yan lost his head for a moment and kissed him.
Wen Yan thought of it as interest for all the days he'd spent working like a dog to take care of him.
But after one surprise came an even bigger one.
Wen Yan thought Chu Yao meant it would only happen once. Instead, he was packed up and taken to Chu Yao's home, where they began a long-term arrangement. And though they were supposed to be friends with benefits, Chu Yao started interfering more and more, while holding Wen Yan to a double standard.
He forbade Wen Yan from staying up late, but when he got absorbed in work, he completely lost track of time and would only say, "Oh, I didn't notice."
He set limits on how long Wen Yan could spend petting the cat, yet Wen Yan had seen Chu Yao take the cat into his room several times. Wen Yan timed it, and not once was it less than half an hour.
He packed up and threw out all Wen Yan's old clothes, saying they were ugly and that Wen Yan could either wear the new clothes he'd bought him or wear his own. Wen Yan couldn't understand it. Chu Yao had worn his chick-patterned pajamas at the beginning, and now he was calling them ugly!
Wen Yan kept putting up with it. He knew he couldn't afford to offend rich people like this. It would be fine once he went abroad.
Until the eve of Wen Yan's departure...
Chu Yao wrapped his arms around Wen Yan from behind, glancing at the suitcase by his side. He bit his earlobe, like a demon who wanted to devour him. "Baby, where are you going?"
"Baby, tell me. Back then, did you mistake me for someone else?"
Wen Yan felt a chill crawl up his back.
