"I hear Chang'an is like a chess game, and a century of worldly affairs is beyond sorrow."
Spring: Chinese clematis root. Summer: selfheal. Autumn: mulberry leaves. Winter: sunflower seeds. Day after day, in the medicine shop scented with herbs in the East Market, the slender, upright figure of a young man was always there.
Chang'an had towering palace walls. Within its layered inner chambers lived the nobles whom the seventeen-year-old boy of that time would never get to meet.
Until an ordinary spring day, when a young lady in a jade-green dress walked into the medicine shop.
He turned around and fell into a pair of clear eyes, bright as a stream.
And his life, once calm and undisturbed, filled with love, desire, anger, and longing.
From then on, from north to south, sword in hand and horse at the reins, he would make his arms her blade and his chest her fortress, all to protect the phoenix perched above those towering palace walls.
A few things to know:
1. A short story: a fierce, proud young general x a cool-headed, wise princess;
2. One-on-one romance, both leads' first relationship. A sweet romance, though there will be a few twists;
3. Set in an alternate history, inspired by the Tang Dynasty. Please don't scrutinize the historical details. Every character has an independent personality;
