Abyssal forces appeared out of nowhere a century ago and began devouring the world. The foundations of modern civilization were completely overturned. Scavenging and using the Abyss to grow stronger became humanity's only way to survive.
A girl named D, from the most brutal slums, carried a giant scythe twice her height and strolled gracefully through a sea of corpses.
"Hey! Didn't you say you'd tricked some rich fool into coming here so we could kill him? Why'd you pick a place where an Abyss Boss is roaming?"
"Holy crap! The fat sheep is the one surrounded by a horde of zombies!"
"Are you insane? That's Sister D, the walking calamity who wipes out Abyss Bosses!"
"Hey, that zombie carrying the greatsword... isn't that your boss?"
Miss D had just wiped out a bandit camp and was completely baffled. Hadn't the bounty said there were some tough thugs around here? Her luck was terrible. Looked like she'd be going hungry again tonight...
Actually, Miss D had a secret. Like an old-school video game, she could analyze the power of the Abyss.
While everyone else was risking their lives to find ways to grow stronger, she had already paved herself a path to the throne of the God of Death.

"Sister D, one day, in the Demon King's palace, beneath the light of the fire of truth and served by a hundred elves, I'll personally feed you the succubus heart I've cooked!"
D looked around and silently nodded. "It's pretty much like that already. Aren't I in a decaying tomb, beneath flickering ghost fire, with a hundred corpses eyeing me, eating worm stir-fry you cooked yourself?"
