Summer, Please Answer

On the night after the college entrance exams, Xia Tian receives a WeChat message from her cocky deskmate at the train station: [You can really keep your cool. The exams are over, you know.]

Xia Tian doesn't understand and replies with a question mark: [?]

Zhong Siyu replies instantly: [So, aren't you going to confess to me?]

Xia Tian stares at the message for a full minute, then blocks and deletes him for good and leaves town.

As the train whistle blows, the world outside the window speeds backward into the distance. Xia Tian remembers the summer she transferred schools and first met him.

The boy is arrogant and carefree. He looks at her with an amused half-smile. "Hey, is it polite to stare at people like that?"

He probably never expected her to be even more impolite.

When she left without saying goodbye, she never thought they'd meet again.

One rainy day, years later.

Xia Tian is taking a student to the hospital. Amid the rush and confusion, she hears someone call out and turns around. After all these years, he's wearing a neatly buttoned white coat, leaning against the wall as he watches her, looking utterly listless.

"Here for a prenatal checkup alone?"

"I just, "

"That bastard isn't coming with you?"

"..."

She'd like to know who that bastard is, too.

The brilliant, beautiful boy in her memories grows up to become a renowned cardiac surgeon. His white coat, worn to save lives, can't conceal the rebellious edge in his deep-set eyes.

Xia Tian thinks he's long since moved on from everything.

But later, amid the surging crowds and endless confusion, he pushes through the noise and crush to grab her hand tightly.

"Going missing again?"

At that moment, the city is ablaze with fireworks, and the streets are full of people.

Suddenly, she feels an overwhelming urge to love him.
