The Newbie Boss Officially Starts Work [Full-Dive VR]

After dreaming for a thousand years, Jiang Huan woke up to find himself the boss monster in a holographic game set in the interstellar era.

Before him stood players fresh out of the starting village, dressed in battered blue and purple gear. They were brandishing swords and debating whether to slash his face or chop off his feet to break open the coffin he was holed up in and claim the dungeon rewards.

Jiang Huan: "!!!"

Unable to move, and with the players closing in, Jiang Huan had no choice but to try using the only skill on his status screen to save himself.

In an instant, the scene changed:

Zhulong, a dragon with a human face and a serpent's body, opened its eyes and coiled around the coffin.

A Golden Crow burst from the enormous Fusang tree with a long cry, trailing dazzling golden light.

The Guanghan Palace materialized in the void, and the toad on the moon exhaled a mouthful of icy air.

The Terracotta Warriors, once mere decorations, raised their banners and strode forth with unstoppable force.

The players, fresh out of the starting village and eager to make a name for themselves, were first drenched by the wind and rain summoned by Zhulong. Then the Golden Crow scorched them until their heads spun. Next, the Jade Toad froze them into ice sculptures with a breath of cold air. Finally, amid the sound of drums and horns, the Terracotta Warriors trampled them to death.

When they revived, the players, left with nothing but their underwear, stared at one another in disbelief. The boss had made off with their dungeon rewards, coffin and all!

In the interstellar era, material needs were met and technology flourished. The hugely popular holographic game Origin of Heaven was operated by the central AI. To improve the game, it secretly hired people to play boss monsters. They gave the AI a chance to learn, while also making interactions with players more engaging and the game more fun.

The day Jiang Huan ran off with his coffin, a post titled "What's the Most Ridiculous Dungeon Boss You've Ever Seen?" shot to the top of the game forum's trending list after one tearful reply won the most likes:

"That coffin by the starting village who summons Terracotta Warriors to trample you, loots every last thing you own, and even deducts your experience..."

*Working title. I'll change it if I think of something better.
