Embraced by Midsummer

When Xia Zhu was twelve, her parents died in the line of duty, and she was taken in by the Sheng family.

To uphold the reputation of Old Master Sheng as a man who never forgot an old friend, they passed her around like a hot potato until she ended up with Sheng Mingyuan, the old man's youngest son.

From then on, the once-reckless young master Sheng put away his carefree ways and dutifully took on the role of guardian.

He spoiled and indulged her, treasuring her like a rose in his heart.

But he never expected that the delicate flower he'd raised for ten years would fall for his hopeless nephew.

His friends all said they'd never seen Sheng Mingyuan lose his composure like that.

At eighteen, Xia Zhu followed Sheng Mingyuan around, eyeing the woman on his blind date with open hostility.

"Uncle, don't you like your little bamboo shoot anymore?"

"No."

The man's profile was stern. He turned his gaze away without a trace of emotion.

At twenty-two, Xia Zhu raced to the front lines of the news with her camera. She came home exhausted, only to find Sheng Mingyuan sitting on the sofa.

His face was swallowed by the darkness, his expression unreadable. A black card lay before him.

Sheng Yan looked mortified. "Xia Zhu, I'm sorry."

At a cocktail party, in a dim stairwell,

Xia Zhu glared up at Sheng Mingyuan, mockery in her eyes. "You like me now?"

"It's not like." Sheng Mingyuan paused, then bent down and kissed her shoulder. "Those words are too weak to describe it."
