South Yanping

I grew up on this land, and in the end, I have to write something about it.

At first, it wasn't called Yanping. It was called Nanping. Then, when I was a teenager, the prefecture relocated from Yanping District to Jianyang. From then on, I was no longer simply a person from Nanping when I was away from home. I was from Yanping.

Yanping isn't big. It's a tiny city. Whether you go north to south or east to west, you can cover it all on foot. As a child, I always thought this city was big enough. When I grew up and came back, though, I found myself agreeing with my friends as we walked: Nanping really is small. I'm a foodie, and in Yanping I often suddenly crave something, only to discover, as expected, that no shop back home sells things like Indian flying pancakes, durian cheese lava cakes, or all those assorted desserts. Whenever I got into an argument with my parents, I would casually say that since there wasn't even anything I wanted to eat, I wouldn't come back to Nanping to work after graduation.

That was an unfair thing to say. When I was by myself, I thought of some of Yanping's foods and remembered a few scenes, so I wrote them down one by one.
