My Ex-Boyfriend Became My Academic Advisor

What's it like when your ex-boyfriend becomes your academic advisor?

Yi Ayu thinks it's awful. She wants to skip class and go to a concert, so she hands her advisor a leave request and says, "Professor, my aunt is in the hospital. I need to go see her."

Her ex-boyfriend and advisor, Liu Zhishan, adjusts his glasses. "I thought your dad only had one younger brother."

"...My grandaunt."

"Is your idol having another concert?"

Yi Ayu fails one of her final exams. According to school policy, her advisor has to notify her parents. Yi Ayu clutches Liu Zhishan's pant leg. "You can't do this. Your mom told you not to bully me."

Liu Zhishan gently peels her little hand away. "My mom only told me not to mistreat my girlfriend. But as your advisor, it's my duty to make sure you study."

Liu Zhishan is giving a department-wide lecture in the auditorium, telling students to study hard and try to get into graduate school. He talks about how hard he worked to prepare for the entrance exam, how diligently he studied, and how exhausting classes were.

Down below, Yi Ayu rolls her eyes at her roommate. "Listen to him talk nonsense. Back then, he skipped class, failed the final, had to retake College Physics, and complained to me that the teacher was unreasonable."

Yi Ayu grabs her bag and tries to sneak out the back door. Her advisor and ex-boyfriend picks up the microphone onstage and calls out, "Yi Ayu, repeat what I just said. Don't rush off. It's Thursday, and the cafeteria ladies aren't selling soy-braised duck today."
