[Third-person narration]
When I opened my eyes and saw the familiar, run-down bedroom and the snarling spirits, I knew I'd come back to life again.
It was honestly a very frustrating thing.
I'd thought that if I spent a lifetime happily accumulating merit, I'd be able to trade it for a rich family and a life of doing nothing. Instead, I opened my eyes and had to start over from scratch.
If that's how it is, I might as well start lying flat right now!
Fortunately, I had memories of my previous life, so this time I skillfully avoided all sorts of trouble.
But in this chaotic era, being too lucky can make you stand out even more than being unlucky.
For instance, this is the twenty-seventh time the Paranormal Management Bureau has invited me in for a "cup of tea."
Whether they cursed me out or tried to coax me, I treated it like a bedtime story and dozed off with my eyes half closed.
Come on, I've heard things far worse and far nicer than that. Their material is so old-fashioned.
That is, until a handsome guy with brown hair and golden eyes walked into the interrogation room.
I perked right up. I broke free of my handcuffs and walked toward him with my phone in hand, full of energy.
"Hey, handsome, want to add me as a friend?"
The Bureau erupted into chaos and rushed to grab me, but the handsome guy raised a hand, and they stopped at once.
He looked down at me, his golden eyes even prettier beneath the lights.
"Sure."
I beamed.
I'd thought I wouldn't get another chance to meet him in this life.
Right now, the handsome guy was just a rising star at the Bureau.
No one knew that one day he'd become humanity's strongest fighter and the savior's most trusted companion.
And no one knew that humanity had been utterly defeated in my previous life because, at the end, he defected to the paranormal side and betrayed and killed the savior.
That savior was me.
I don't want to lie flat anymore.
I'm going to take that idiot down!!
