Gou Sheng was an orphan, raised in a village on food shared by the neighbors.
One day, the village's well-respected old schoolteacher welcomed his little grandson. Everyone brought fruit and vegetables to pay a visit, but Gou Sheng was crouched in a filthy corner when his eyes met those of a porcelain doll with fair, delicate skin.
Unlike Gou Sheng, the porcelain doll was exquisitely beautiful, though he looked terribly pale and sickly.
Zhou Sui held a plate of white pastries Gou Sheng had never seen before. With a simple "Would you like some?" he stepped into Gou Sheng's world.
-
Zhou Sui, heir to Prince Rui, was frail and often ill. Unable to accompany his parents on military campaigns or live for long in the northern frontier, he spent several years growing up in the capital before being sent to his maternal grandfather's home in the countryside.
When he first arrived in Wushan Village at the age of seven, he found a "little dirty dog" outside his grandfather's house and diligently fed him for more than ten years.
He shared half his food with Gou Sheng, taught him to read and write and to tell right from wrong, and gave him the new name "Li Chongheng."
Li Chongheng was a grateful little dog, devoted to staying by Zhou Sui's side and protecting him as he grew up.
Until the willow branches sprouted and the spring flowers bloomed again. Zhou Sui prepared to leave Wushan Village and return to the capital. Li Chongheng awkwardly and cautiously wrapped his arms around Zhou Sui's waist, looking just like a stray dog about to lose its home. In a small voice, he asked,
"...Are you going to leave me behind?"
Reader's Guide:
1. Loyal, rugged, pure-hearted gong x aloof, beautiful, sickly shou
2. Fictional setting, SC, one-on-one

Upcoming novel "When a Slacker Is Forced to Take the Throne":
Ning Shijia was a slacker emperor.
Born a disfavored illegitimate son, his greatest ambition was to eat a grilled fish seasoned with Sichuan pepper every day.
Then an old minister told him, "As emperor, you can eat grilled fish every day," and tricked him into taking the throne.
Every day brought endless memorials to review and ancient texts he couldn't understand.
He didn't think he'd live to a hundred and eat all thirty-six thousand five hundred grilled fish.
After Ning Shijia tried and failed to slack off time and again, the Qi family sent their youngest daughter to the palace to become empress.
On their wedding night, Ning Shijia expected a romantic scene of tender affection, moonlit flowers, and whispered intimacy.
But why did his new empress, waiting for him in the bedchamber with a wedding veil on, look more muscular than he was?!
-
To reform the palace's decadent ways and assist the new emperor, Qi Zhen resolved to take his younger sister's place in the wedding.
On his first day in the harem, he banished the noisy music and frivolous entertainment.
"Your Majesty should settle down and study. Copy this Treatise on the Zhenguan Era one more time."
On his second day in the harem, he confiscated all the popular fiction Ning Shijia had hidden in his study.
"Your Majesty is still young. I believe you should read books that will set you on the proper path."
On his third day in the harem, he shut down the small kitchen that prepared Ning Shijia's midnight snacks.
"Your Majesty eats five meals a day. You ought to exercise some restraint."
Ning Shijia couldn't stand having Qi Zhen serve as an official by day and dress as a woman to manage his life by night.
Taking advantage of the grand selection of new consorts held once every three years, Ning Shijia spent the whole day in the Hall of Diligent Governance, happily admiring portraits of the dozen or so lovely young women about to enter the palace.
That night, Qi Zhen put his phoenix coronet and wedding robes back on, painted his lips a deep red, and wiped the lipstick left on his fingertip onto Ning Shijia's cheek, leaving an ambiguous smear.
He gripped Ning Shijia's chin and spoke softly with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"Am I not good enough, Your Majesty? How dare you still think of someone else?"
Reader's Guide:
1. Scheming, secretly flirtatious cross-dressing gong (Qi) x slacker, straight emperor shou (Ning)
2. SC, one-on-one, older gong
3. The shou is a bit of a mess at first, somewhat uneducated and only interested in food, drink, and fun, but he'll gradually mature.
4. This is basically a comedy, so please bear with it.
Theme: The joy of helping others
