After Being Forced to Marry a Powerful Eunuch

As an unloved daughter of a prominent family, Liu Yi could see exactly what her future held.

She would be married off to forge an alliance for her family, become the mistress of a noble household, serve her parents-in-law, support her husband and raise their children, manage his concubines, and live out her life that way.

Then, just after her coming-of-age ceremony, a sudden turn of events brought an imperial decree: she was assigned to Chu Huai, the director of the imperial manufactory, as his companion.

Chu Huai was known for his ruthless and vicious methods, with informants everywhere.

Those he set his sights on were either imprisoned and exiled at best, or had their entire families executed at worst.

The officials quaked at the mere mention of him.

When she was assigned to Chu Huai, her close friend cried until her eyes were red. The noble young ladies voiced their sympathy, though many couldn't help enjoying the spectacle.

She had no say in the marriage, and one husband was as good as another. Liu Yi prepared for the worst and decided to make the best of it.

After they married, Liu Yi discovered Chu Huai wasn't like the rumors at all.

He would do her makeup and style her hair, shelter her from the wind and rain, brush the dust from her shoes, and bring her every treasure he could find.

He cherished her above all else, year after year, for a decade.

How enviable.

.

He was the sharpest sword in the hands of those in power,

and also the umbrella that sheltered her and kept her safe for life.

Content warning: The male lead is a real eunuch. I couldn't stop thinking about this, so I wrote the story myself.
