When Yuan Jiugo was little, she got separated from her grandmother on a street in London. As she stood there crying, a young boy appeared before her. A vivid rose petal drifted from his shoulder and landed in Yuan Jiugo's open palm. "I'll stay here and wait with you for your family, young lady." The boy spoke with breathtaking arrogance, yet stayed by Yuan Jiugo's side with warmth until her grandmother came to get her.
Only after she had walked a long way away did it dawn on her that she hadn't asked the older boy his name.
After returning to China from her life abroad, the first call Yuan Jiugo received was to inform her that she was engaged.
Still at the airport, Yuan Jiugo wore sunglasses that covered nearly half her face, but had no chance to refuse. She was forced to transfer schools and put in the same class as her fiance. On the very first day they met, she laid down three rules.
"First, this engagement wasn't my choice. I hope we can end it once we're adults.
Second, I don't want my private love life disturbed in the meantime, and I won't interfere with yours either.
Third, I haven't thought of it yet. I'll add it later."
In the enormous student council president's office, the young emperor sat in his chair and looked at the girl with her chin slightly raised. In a good mood, he agreed to her terms. "Third, you have to be there for every one of my competitions as my fiancee." He added his own condition. Yuan Jiugo frowned slightly, but agreed.
And so, Yuan Jiugo showed up at every one of his club activities that were open to the public. Over time, their relationship became an accepted fact throughout the school. Yet Yuan Jiugo still wanted to find the rose boy who had kept her company for three hours on a London street all those years ago. She had overlooked the vast field of fiery red roses at the boy's home.
