The Widow Won't Marry Again (Everyday Life)

Ever since transmigrating here, Yao Hua has felt like she's trapped in a terrible, clichéd TV drama.

Her betrothed, whom she'd been promised to since childhood, went to the capital to take the imperial exams and died.

Her future husband's relatives blocked her door, demanding that she honor her promise and marry into their family.

They'd never been husband and wife in life, they said, so they should at least be buried together in death.

Yao Hua's family lectured her endlessly, asking how a widow could stay with her birth family, yet said nothing about the money they'd taken.

So Yao Hua simply held a funeral, changed into white mourning clothes, packed up her belongings, and moved out. She found a place in an alley on the corner of the street.

She opened a little eatery to support herself. Making a living on her own was no problem.

Who in the world would bully a widow? They'd better be careful, or her dead husband might come after them from beyond the grave.

Her days were busy, but she could manage just fine.

The only thing that bothered Yao Hua was that once her three years of mourning were over, several people came to propose.

The newly appointed constable of the county, her late husband's old school friend, and that nasty thing who had come back from the dead under a different name.

Yao Hua laughed and pointed toward a grave three li outside the city gates. "My former husband is buried over there. So where did this fake relative come from?"

She packed her bags and put on her wedding dress, smiling especially sweetly. "Sorry, but you'll have to try again in your next life. Don't be so greedy."

Another sweet little story about everyday life in town, a short account of my little girl Yao Hua's life in ancient times.
