Shuniang travels south with him.
The long journey is difficult, but Shen Qian takes good care of her.
In the small daily gestures of pouring tea and fetching water, Shuniang decides she can entrust herself to this man.
She begins to love him.
But one day, a voice suddenly rings in her mind:
[System 0801 has successfully rebooted and is at your service.]
She is Cheng Zhishu, who was betrothed by imperial decree last year to the eldest son of the Duke of Zheng.
On her wedding day, the crown prince of the realm abducted her as his bride.
There is no wealthy young master named Shen Qian in this world,
only the crown prince, Song Qian.
**
As crown prince of the dynasty, Song Qian was born with a pair of eyes unlike anyone else's.
He can see the colors of people's emotions.
Greed, malice, and jealousy take shape. They cover people's faces, constrict their throats, and weigh down on them.
Among these repulsive colors, Cheng Zhishu, the younger daughter of the Duke of Pingyang, is surrounded by a thin, warm glow, like a palace lantern lit at night.
She is graceful and kind, a celebrated noblewoman throughout the capital, and the only person whose face Song Qian can see clearly.
But the old emperor has betrothed her to someone else.
After marriage, she will be confined to the inner quarters, tending to her husband and raising children in a cramped courtyard, dutifully managing the household.
She will be busy, and gradually go out less often.
It will become harder and harder to see her.
Would that be all right? Of course not.
She is his light.
No one can take her away.
