A few miles behind the village stood a chain of towering mountains. Thick fog shrouded the woods, wild beasts roamed, and rumor had it that ghosts and monsters devoured people.
To avoid being thrown into the river as a sacrifice, Bai Lu fled into the perilous mountains in the dead of night.
The monster in the rumors was a god.
Bai Lu looked at the god veiled in the morning mist. He was pure and ethereal, with an ancient bell of unknown age beside him.
The god drifted down from the cloud-wreathed mountaintop. Parting the mist, he landed before Bai Lu and tilted his head at her. “Who are you?”
Bai Lu, disheveled from head to toe, looked at the pure and holy god.
“I’m Bai Lu.”

The spirit who had imprisoned him there.
