Official synopsis:

Ten thousand years ago, Ji Huaiqing, the celestial official in charge of the Milky Way, was struck down from the divine realm by three bolts of heavenly lightning. When he was covered in wounds, someone rescued him. During their time together, Ji Huaiqing developed feelings for his rescuer, but before he could confess, circumstances forced them to part.

Ten thousand years later, the rift left by Nuwa when she mended the sky reappeared. By order of the Heavenly Venerable, Ji Huaiqing traveled through the Six Realms to find the Five-Colored Stones needed to repair the sky. Along the way, he met Yujiao Chen, the Spirit Venerable, who seemed to favor him. After testing him, Ji Huaiqing learned that Yujiao Chen was the very person who had saved his life during his tribulation ten thousand years ago. It turned out they had fallen for each other back then without knowing the other's feelings. At last, they confessed their love and set off together to find the Five-Colored Stones. They found one stone each in the realms of demons, monsters, humans, and ghosts, and uncovered four hidden stories connected to them.

But as the rift in the sky continued to widen, the final Five-Colored Stone remained nowhere to be found. Just then, Ji Huaiqing's tribulation came due again. Worried for him, Yujiao Chen entered his tribulation to help him through it, only to stumble upon a shocking secret. It concerned the survival of all beings in the Six Realms, and was also the cause of Ji Huaiqing's tribulation. Unable to make a choice, Yujiao Chen decided to bury the secret deep in his heart and take Ji Huaiqing's place in fulfilling his mission. But the perceptive Ji Huaiqing found out. Deeply in love with each other and concerned for all living beings, the two revealed everything to the immortals of the divine realm and sought a solution together. The only way to resolve the crisis was for both of them to sacrifice themselves for the Six Realms.

In the end, the rift in the sky was sealed, but the two fell into a deep slumber. It was not until sixteen years later, thanks to a twist of fate, that they awoke. Only then, at last able to stay by each other's side, did they learn that their bond had begun long before ten thousand years ago...

Plot version:

Yujiao Chen tried to gauge Ji Huaiqing's mood, then stammered, "Those three bolts of heavenly lightning you took during your tribulation... They struck the wrong person. They were supposed to... strike me..."

Ji Huaiqing gave a couple of cold laughs and said icily, "Oh... So now that you've got me, you think it's time to come clean?"
