A top who starts out arrogant and roguish, then grits his teeth and swallows every grievance.
A bottom who starts out timid, cowardly, and adorable, then becomes a bandit chief who has no qualms about tricking his lover.
Synopsis One:
Bu Cangluan was ambushed by bandits outside the capital and knocked unconscious. Just as he was at death's door, Jiang Jiren happened to pass by and save him.
Thinking Bu Cangluan was being hunted by enemies, Jiang Jiren didn't want to get involved. Before Bu Cangluan could even ask his name, he took off, first knocking him unconscious with a piece of naan bread.
When Bu Cangluan woke up, his savior was gone. All he found was a peachwood pendant the other man had dropped on the ground.
Bu Cangluan thought, You knock me out and think you can just run away? Not a chance!
Two months later, Jiang Jiren arrived in the capital. On his very first day, he ran into Bu Cangluan and had his hand slashed by the ungrateful bastard.
Jiang Jiren noticed the peachwood pendant hanging from Bu Cangluan and said it didn't look like it belonged to him. With an insolent grin, Bu Cangluan shamelessly replied, "Oh, this was left to me by my late wife."
Jiang Jiren thought, What a load of crap.
Synopsis Two:
At first, Bu Cangluan looked down on Jiang Jiren. The man seemed too weak to swat a chicken, and probably needed someone to feed him at mealtimes.
But after they'd known each other for a while, Magistrate Bu started to feel that something was off. The man had arms and legs, so why was someone else feeding him? Even if his hand was injured and he couldn't manage on his own, shouldn't the culprit, Bu himself, be the one to feed him?!
Bu Cangluan decided to have a serious talk with Jiang Jiren about it.
But then, through a twist of fate involving a case, Jiang Jiren became the leader of a band of outlaws and led his men on a desperate escape back to their hideout.
Before Bu Cangluan could confess his feelings, he was forced to embark on a long and arduous quest to win Jiang Jiren back.
One ran, the other chased, and Bu Cangluan suffered countless setbacks at Jiang Jiren's hands! He'd met plenty of crafty suspects, but he'd never encountered anyone as slippery as Jiang Jiren. People like him came along once in a thousand years.
After being fooled time and again, Magistrate Bu started doubting himself. How the hell did I ever look down on Jiang Jiren? How can he be this smart? If I don't catch him soon, is he going to get hooked on being a bandit chief?
Grinding his teeth, Bu Cangluan swore, "Jiang Jiren, once I bring you home, I'll show you who's boss!"
Jiang Jiren: "Who do you think you're talking to? If you don't like it, suck it up!"
Bu Cangluan: "Why are you yelling? Did I say anything?"
