Eating Well in the Song Dynasty

She transmigrates into the Song dynasty as an orphaned “Zhao.”

Zhao Huan says her life isn't tragic at all.

She's raised at the government's expense year after year. Aside from being barred from political affairs, she can do whatever she likes.

So Zhao Huan becomes a wealthy, carefree member of the imperial clan.

Eating and drinking every day.

But she never expected that even eating and drinking would attract the ruler's attention.

Because:

She eats lamb skewers and pork jerky with Wang Anshi.

She has braised pork with Sima Guang.

She has raw fish, drinks congee with century egg and lean pork, and mixes in Fuling pickles with Fan Zhongyan.

She eats crab roe buns with Ouyang Xiu.

She has Dongpo pork and cocktails with Su Dongpo.

She has little barbecue with Di Qing.

She has whole roasted lamb with Wang Shao, who expanded the borders of the Great Song by 1,800 li.

The ruler: “You're a member of the imperial clan. Why are you eating and drinking with so many civil and military officials? What are you up to?”

Zhao Huan insists she's innocent.

She really doesn't have that many “secret schemes.”

It's their “shared interests” that bring them all together.

The ruler: “Really? I don't believe you!”

With no other choice, Zhao Huan has to reveal her orientation and bring out the person she's been secretly seeing.

The ruler takes one look. “Since when has the commander of my imperial guards been involved with Zhao Huan?”

First he's furious, then delighted.

Then he has a wedding bestowed on the two of them with great fanfare.

Zhao Huan and Lin Yi: “Now we're really tied together!”

Lin Yi: His bland, flavorless life was stirred into ripples by one person.

Theme: The warmth of everyday life soothes the hearts of ordinary people.
