In the year 6023, technology advanced by leaps and bounds, and the life energy of all living things around the world began to revive.

The national monitoring agencies of the eight great empires detected strange surges in life energy in several locations. The cause turned out to be a dramatic increase in life energy within certain plants and animals, giving them intelligence and humanoid forms.

To prevent uninformed members of the public from panicking at the sight of these humanoid creatures, the great empires established Humanoid Creature Management Bureaus. Once discovered, humanoid creatures would enter human society under the guidance and supervision of the bureaus.

When Jian Lian was fifteen, a team-based survival game set in a full-dive virtual xianxia world, "For the Chivalrous: A Hero's Tender Heart," was released.

Less than three months after launch, Jian Lian, who had only meant to play casually, had accidentally reached the top of the national rankings in several classes and claimed the number-one spot on the overall leaderboard.

In the eyes of her fans, Jian Lian could pick up any class in the game with ease. Calling her a gaming prodigy was no exaggeration.

Before long, countless renowned professional teams approached Jian Lian, offering her extremely generous contracts.

On the day Jian Lian decided to join TRS, the strongest professional team overall, she found a little red fox that was on the verge of death and still baring its teeth at her.

After bringing the little fox home, Jian Lian discovered large patches of wounds hidden beneath its fur. It only survived thanks to treatment from the family medical robot.

When the little red fox first woke up, it made fierce snorting sounds. After a week with Jian Lian, it not only loved clinging to her, but also adored acting spoiled.

Of course Jian Lian spoiled it rotten, until it became completely unruly. It even beat all the other little animals in the house into submission. It was a clever little thing, too. Whenever it did something wrong, it would wag its fluffy tail, fawn on Jian Lian, and roll around for her. She could never bring herself to punish it.

Later, Jian Lian's life plans turned out to be completely different from the future her parents had planned for her. While she was away training at her team's base, her parents sold the little fox, using the excuse that she was neglecting her future to force her to give in.

Recently, a new streamer called Fox had been making waves on the Cat Shark streaming platform. His unusual, cunning play style and explosive temper had won him a huge following.

During one stream, he went up against TRS.Strict, professional player Jian Lian and captain of the TRS team. The season left her burdened with a mountain of insults and blame.

Some people refused to believe her skill was real and spread rumors that her opponent had been a paid actor. The rumors and abuse grew more and more vicious.

At the height of the controversy, Fox's stream title read, "Putting certain bitter losers in their place." On camera, the young man had red hair, and the beauty mark below his left eye looked especially alluring.

Jian Lian clicked on the stream at random and froze.

After the TRS team celebrated winning another championship, Captain Jian Lian took responsibility for getting Wen Chun, who couldn't hold his liquor, home safely. She had just put him in the car when Wen Chun, normally foul-tempered, grabbed her with both arms and legs, rubbing himself against her and making cute little whining sounds. Then a pair of fluffy red fox ears and a bushy tail appeared.

Jian Lian reached out in confusion and touched his tail.

Fluffy. Soft. Just like her little fox.
