It's Hard Being the Crown Princess

[Blurb]

Shen Qingwu is the legitimate daughter of the Marquis of Yongding. From the day she was born, she was raised to be the Crown Princess. Beautiful and talented, she excelled at music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, making her the model young lady of the capital.

When she came of age, she married the Crown Prince, Chu Yan.

After they married, they treated each other with courtesy.

She remained as proper and well-behaved as she had been as a girl, never overstepping her bounds.

She never asked where Chu Yan went. Even when he spent the night at a pleasure house, she never questioned him and would even offer explanations to their elders on his behalf.

The emperor and empress praised Shen Qingwu for her grace and propriety. Her parents were glad that all their years of effort had paid off, and Chu Yan's colleagues envied him for having such a virtuous Crown Princess.

Before long, a saying began circulating around the capital: "If you want a wife, marry a Shen."

Everyone was pleased with her, except Chu Yan.

Shen Qingwu believed she had followed every rule her mother had taught her. She could confidently say no one in the capital was better suited to be Crown Princess.

So she couldn't understand why Chu Yan kept finding reasons to criticize her.
