The spirit-medium and fox-spirit setting includes personal additions and may not be fully accurate. Modernized language, out-of-character portrayals, battle injuries, revenge, and mutual exploitation. The relationship is complicated and tangled, the plot is melodramatic, and the ending is happy.

The story begins when Yan Liang is a child. They don't truly come to understand each other's feelings until Yan Liang is an adult and his family has been destroyed. Primarily told from Yan Liang's perspective.
