Only as he was dying did Bai Dong learn that the world he lived in was an ARPG, and that he was just one of its characters.

According to the story, his fiance would frame him, his family would abandon him, and he would die miserably in prison, branded a traitor to the Alliance.

When the story loaded from its save point, he awakened to his own existence,

returning to the day his family summoned him home and he met his fiance.

Bai Dong defied his father's orders and refused the arranged marriage. Injured while trying to avoid punishment, he was rescued on the way by a mysterious aircraft.

The aircraft's owner was a handsome young man who not only got him out of danger, but also treated his wounds, gave him a safe house, and supplied him with weapons... There was just something strange about the way he looked at Bai Dong, as if he had something to say but couldn't bring himself to say it.

Bai Dong was grateful, but remained wary. Before his injuries had healed, he left the cost of his treatment and slipped away without a word.

Not long afterward, while on a mission, he happened to meet the legendary commander of the Alliance's First Army Group.

The commander was said to have made a name for himself at a young age. He was exceptionally strong and undefeated in battle, a living legend of the Alliance.

Bai Dong thought he would have nothing to do with someone so important. He took one distant glance and left.

That night, he snuck into the storage area for the mission's items, only to find the safe sitting squarely on a table, with the young commander in his crisp uniform seated beside it.

Bai Dong's eyes went wide. Wasn't this the guy who had inexplicably insisted on saving him last time?!

The commander pushed the mission item, worth a million Star Alliance credits, toward him and asked tentatively, "You only want one? Should I spend some more money and buy you a few other things?"
