1.
At fourteen, Tang Luoer, an exchange student from the East, accepts an invitation to attend Hogwarts.
But as she looks at the "Eastern Visitors' Guide" she's been handed, Luoer raises an eyebrow in disdain:
"Wands are not chopsticks or hairpins."
"Cauldrons are not for cooking hot pot."
"Fantastic Beasts are not for making soup."
"Do not fly on a broomstick while wielding a sword."
"Do not discuss romantic problems with portraits of former headmasters."
"Do not point talismans at ghosts."
Luoer doesn't even finish reading it before tossing it casually into her trunk.
If she obediently follows the rules, what's the fun in being an exchange student?
2.
Every exchange student gets a designated liaison. Luoer's liaison is a boy in her year, a cold-looking fellow with platinum-blond hair and blue eyes.
Scorpius diligently reads the guide to Luoer at the table every day, his face impassive and his eyes faintly annoyed.
"Miss Tang Luoer, as your liaison, I expect you to remember this document. Don't let your mistakes affect my academic assessment."
Luoer takes his hand and gives him earnest advice. "Mr. Malfoy, I suggest you break the school rules with me. You'll discover a whole new kind of fun."
3.
An accident involving a body-swapping spell means Luoer and Scorpius have to spend every day doing their usual activities together. Even during the holidays, Scorpius takes her back to Malfoy Manor.
The students think something is going on between them.
Wearing Scorpius's face, Luoer tries her best to explain. "No, really, there's nothing going on!"
Scorpius says nothing, letting the rumors spread.
Later, when the spell is finally broken, Luoer decides to explain things once more. But before she can even leave the common room, Scorpius corners her against the wall and forces her to meet his heartfelt gaze:
"Miss Tang Luoer, I like you just as the rumors say. Do you... feel the same way about me?"
