The Gods' Battle for Supremacy

Since the first Creator came into being, Earth has experienced two waves of divine births.

The first took place in primitive society, when humanity's reverence and worship of nature gave rise to the first generation of gods beneath the Creator.

The second came during the Renaissance. Humanists turned their attention to humanity, and the worship of human thought and action gave birth to the second generation of gods.

Now, in our highly advanced modern society, people's reverence for the gods has greatly diminished. Many gods have disappeared into the long river of history, forgotten. The gods' activities have reached a historic low, and their followers mournfully call this era the "Twilight of the Gods."

Yet after hitting rock bottom, civilization began to develop in a distorted way, and faith took root here and there in scattered patches. Countless "false gods" were born upon this land. Though they wielded great power, the false gods had never possessed the gods' "divinity." Humanity's baser nature was continuously poured into them through the faith they received. Rage, envy, greed... all became immense evil thoughts. Their malice was purer than humanity's, and their divine power instead became the means by which they ran amok.

Out of love for humanity, anger at their own kind's fall into such depravity, and perhaps a trace of an unspoken envy, the old gods declared war on the new gods.

The Creator stopped this war, whose consequences would have been unimaginable once it began, and changed the rules of the world to deal with the tens of thousands of gods, each stranger than the last.

From this day forward, the Creator would establish a ranking of the gods, judged by divine power and contributions, for a period of ten human years. Only the thirty gods at the top of the final rankings would be allowed to continue existing. All the rest would turn into nourishment and return to the world's source.

The Creator's will stood above all else, and the gods dared not object. Thus, the [Battle for the Throne of the Gods] officially began.

Only... perhaps the gods understood that the Creator tacitly permitted it: "killing one another" had not been forbidden.

Li Xiao is a young third-generation god, commonly known as a false god. By the time she was born, half of the ten years had already passed. How could she possibly surpass those old foxes, whose ages were beyond counting, and claim one of the thirty precious spots before time ran out?

Looking at her ranking, "36,194," Li Xiao fell silent.
