Everyone said Fu Xuanzhi and his little wife were a terrible match.
One was the foremost figure of the righteous path and the model of the immortal realm, a pillar who strode across the Nine Provinces and could cleave the heavens with a single sword.
The other was just a village girl from the mortal realm whom he'd casually rescued on a trip. As delicate and affected as a climbing vine, she had nothing but a pretty face and no cultivation at all. Yet she clung to Fu Xuanzhi and demanded that he be faithful to her for life, which was truly detestable.
And yet the two were inseparable and deeply in love. No matter how many people objected or tried to drive them apart, they could only grit their teeth and accept that the partner of the foremost figure of the righteous path was an ordinary mortal.
Shu Fengjun had transmigrated into a book.
She knew that, according to the plot, a cataclysm would one day befall this world.
When the heavens and earth were overturned and good and evil switched places, countless lives would struggle for survival. Only Fu Xuanzhi would stand firm on his own, sweeping away evil with his sword and restoring peace to the world.
The problem was that Fu Xuanzhi's wife was a real liability. She hid behind him every time, relying on his protection, and even caused him to lose focus and suffer a grave injury, nearly costing him his life.
So Shu Fengjun racked her brains to become Fu Xuanzhi's disciple. She put on a helpless, pitiful act in every way, trying to win the heart of the foremost figure of the righteous path.
After all, that wife was just a mortal. Her lifespan would inevitably come to an end, and she should have known from the start that she wasn't a suitable match for him.
Besides, Shu Fengjun was just trying to survive. There was nothing shameful about that.
Recently, everyone in the cultivation world had applauded, relieved that Fu Xuanzhi had finally seen through the true nature of that bewitching mortal woman.
His new partner, Shu Fengjun, was not only highly cultivated but also the daughter of the Guangling Immortal Venerable. They were a perfect match, a pairing of brilliance and beauty.
Miao Ru, the mortal Fu Xuanzhi had once adored, had been cast off and sent to a remote branch sect, where she struggled to survive.
Everyone guessed that the powerless little village girl, banished to the edge of the immortal-demon border, must spend every day trembling with fear and weeping, unable even to sleep soundly.
But who could have guessed...
With the cataclysm approaching, Shu Fengjun magnanimously came to visit the former wife.
Instead, she saw Miao Ru lounging on a couch laid with fox-fur cushions and silk. As delicate and given to complaints as ever, she showed no sign of having suffered over the years.
Beside her knelt a handsome, peerlessly elegant stranger with bright, starry eyes. He held her slender, jade-white foot in one hand as if it were a precious treasure. Desire roiled in his eyes, but he gently urged her to put on her silk socks.
The demon high priest, disguised as a mortal to hide his demonic aura, said, "Miao Ru, don't be like that."
Miao Ru: "I don't wanna."
Fu Xuanzhi had distinguished himself at a young age. Brilliant and blessed with talent, he had risen smoothly to the top and had never tasted hardship.
Even when it came to the little wife he loved, Fu Xuanzhi was proud and arrogant.
So when he discovered that Miao Ru had been hiding a secret from him, he flew into a rage and only wanted to make her admit she was wrong first.
He pretended to have fallen for someone else, then sent Miao Ru to a remote branch sect, arrogantly waiting for her to come begging him.
As the sun rose and the moon set, longing surged like a tide. At last, the aloof man lowered his head and sneaked off to spy on her.
But he was so furious he nearly went blind when he discovered that the woman he'd been longing for had already happily fallen into someone else's arms!
