Everyone in the Paranormal Affairs Bureau knows that Qin Zhao is insatiably greedy and utterly shameless.
Half a year ago, the bureau's young master, Song Xiuyu, went out to exterminate the paranormal. He was gravely wounded and lost all his memories, only to be rescued by a girl from a remote village.
But instead of keeping her head down and promptly reporting Song Xiuyu's whereabouts, the girl took advantage of the young master's amnesia, shamelessly claiming to be his fiancée so she could use him to climb the social ladder.
Fortunately, Song Xiuyu soon recovered his memories. Enraged, he was deeply ashamed to have been fooled by Qin Zhao.
Furious, Song Xiuyu declared that he would spare Qin Zhao's life only if she crossed the Outer Zone alone.
The Outer Zone had been overrun for four hundred years. It was mysterious and unfathomable, teeming with paranormal horrors. Even the bureau's elite, the most skilled at exorcism, could barely venture into its depths.
Everyone guessed that the vile girl would surely die at the hands of the horrors, meeting a miserable end.
Four hundred years since the paranormal first appeared.
Disaster still loomed, evil spirits ran rampant, and life was as fleeting as morning dew. There was little hope of survival, and everyone was sunk in misery. Their fear had long since faded, leaving only numb despair.
Yet the Paranormal Affairs Bureau, hailed as humanity's savior, looked down on the world from its lofty perch, monopolizing the secret arts of exorcism and raking in riches.
Countless villages and towns gradually fell silent beneath the rampage of evil spirits. Meanwhile, the self-proclaimed righteous messengers lounged on warm beds draped in sable, surrounded by fragrant perfumes, raising crystal wine cups as they coldly watched the lowly masses struggle for their lives.
Until one day.
Birds took flight from the desolate Outer Zone. A girl blazing like a streak of fire arrived in the dark, lantern in hand. She walked over the remains of indescribable horrors, and with a lift of her finger, monstrous apparitions vanished into dust.
Her eyes shone brightly as she gathered the remains of the dead, wiped the filth and blood from village monuments, and rekindled everyone's desire to live.
The common folk have done no wrong; even ants yearn to live.
The silent continent bloomed green once more, and the wishes of countless people gathered in her hands.
The Paranormal Affairs Bureau, enraged at having its authority snatched away, demanded to know who had taught her.

Qin Zhao crossed the river of four hundred years of history.
She encountered the most brilliant people of this era.
Song Xiuyu never imagined he would fall in love with the lowly commoner he despised most.
So when faced with questions that seemed curious but were actually mocking, he wanted only to ruthlessly crush the feelings just beginning to stir within him.
He forced Qin Zhao into the Outer Zone, forcing her to face certain death. He wanted to destroy this woman, whose very existence exposed his shameful desire.
As time changed everything, he never expected desire to blaze so fiercely that it reached the heavens, impossible to put out. Nor did he ever imagine Qin Zhao would truly emerge from the Outer Zone.
He thought this was a chance granted to him by Heaven's decree.
But it was a miracle Qin Zhao had created with her own hands.
From then on, the girl he had trampled beneath his feet rose on the wind and became someone he could never hope to reach.
All he could do was watch her from afar, consumed by regret.
