I See the Green Mountains

[Old-School Angst, Coercive Possession, The Wife-Chasing Crematorium]

When Gu Qiaochi left the Wen family villa alone, she had nothing with her except an expensive golden songbird.

Wen Hejin stood on the second-floor terrace, quietly watching her retreating figure, as if she were a willful child who had run away from home and would soon come obediently back to his side.

That was until Gu Qiaochi was about to step through the courtyard gate.

The phoenix eyes behind his glasses darkened abruptly, his gaze turning cold as the night and disappearing into the dimming dusk over the distant mountains.

The head of the Wen family always handled everything with unhurried ease.

Even his threat to make her stay came in a mild, courteous tone: "Xiao Qiao, if you walk out that gate, I will never again involve myself in anything concerning the Gu family."

Gu Qiaochi paused, but did not turn around.

She crouched down, opened the birdcage, and gave the songbird's fluffy wings one last stroke.

She watched it fly unsteadily toward the distant, blue-green mountains, farther and farther away.

Her smile was pure and bright. "Xiao Qiao, you're free."

I spent my whole life trying to atone, feeling unworthy and pleasing everyone, but forgot to please myself.

Wen Hejin, I don't want to be with you anymore.
