So when the Dog-Licking System sees Qin Shao, who should be violently unruly in the dream, acting as docile as a domesticated dog, the whole System is stunned.

"H-How is he so obedient to you?"

"What? You didn't know?"

The sickly, silver-haired young man grins. "I used to be bound to a Dog-Training System."

Dog-Licking System: "..."

Born half-human and half-demon, Qin Shao is rejected by his father from a young age and has never experienced human warmth.

Until a dream-eating tapir at the Three Gods Mountain pulls him into a nightmare, sending him back to the agonizing past of his childhood.

Only the silver-haired young man, who looks ill, tells him that he is a star in the sky, that he deserves to be loved. That's when Qin Shao realizes he isn't a repulsive monster.

But one day, the young man dies.

At last, Qin Shao falls into demonic cultivation in his fury and becomes the Demon Lord, swearing to bring him back from the dead.

Who could have guessed that a century later, the young man who should have died would be standing right in front of him, perfectly well, and greeting him with an awkward smile? "Who are you, sir?"

Qin Shao gives a cold laugh. Does he think pretending not to know him will fool him?

He immediately transforms into his true form and extends his long, slippery tentacles, coiling the young man into his embrace. From then on, he decides that no matter what, he will take him apart and devour him, becoming one with him. Only then will they never be separated.

Reading Guide:

1. A delicate, frail, laid-back senior disciple X a gloomy, loyal puppy of a junior disciple whose true form is an octopus monster.

2. The blurb leans toward romance, while the story is split between plot and romance, with a strong protagonist and a lovesick love interest.

3. My take on cultivation. It doesn't stand up to close scrutiny; the writing and logic are lacking, and it's full of pointless rambling.

4. The blurb is misleading. The content from the love interest's perspective in the blurb doesn't appear until much, much later.

5. A bedtime read, not a dog-training story (sob, I didn't manage to write that, I'll try harder next time). Give it a try if you're out of books to read~

But the seemingly weak guide looks at the black serpent sentinel before him as it undergoes mutation, reaches out with a trembling hand, and strokes its scales. "D-Don't be afraid. I'm your guide."

The once-violent black serpent seems to be soothed and strangely falls quiet.

It wraps its tail around the little guide, drawing him into its embrace, and buries its head in the hollow of his neck.

Its golden, slit-pupiled eyes are full of heat, and its forked tongue gently licks the soft, pale skin of the guide's neck.

Their bodies press close together like lovers who are inseparable. A contented purr even rumbles from the black serpent's mouth.

From that day on, sentinels across the stars know that the new E-grade guide at the Star Tower has an exceptional ability to soothe them.

Whether it's the captain of the strongest black serpent knight order in the interstellar realm, the holy and pure merman saint, or even the empire's second prince of the Lionheart line... all of them end their mutations under his care.

And so, the E-grade guidance room at the Star Tower, once all but deserted, has a long line outside for the first time in ages, with everyone waiting to book an appointment with the little guide.

Bonus Scene:

After joining the Star Tower, Xi Mian becomes its most requested guide. He never expected a newcomer like himself to be so popular, so he's bursting with motivation, working diligently every day and dreaming of an early retirement.

But lately, there have been so many requests that he's struggling to keep up. His coworkers kindly offer him snacks and look at him sympathetically. "It must be exhausting to guide those thugs every day."

Xi Mian: "?"

Xi Mian stares blankly, then looks outside the guidance room at the canine sentinels, quietly holding their number tickets and obediently waiting in line, sneaking glances at him now and then. He thinks they're adorable. When they can't control their mental energy, they even turn into little dogs. Who could say no to cuddling fluffy cuties on the clock?

So he smiles gently. "Not at all. They're all very kind and friendly. They've really helped me gain confidence in my work."

His coworkers look at him with complicated expressions, as if he's some kind of weirdo. He starts to wonder if he's said something wrong.

Unbeknownst to him, outside the guidance room, the canine mercenary squad's sentinels blush and cup their faces.

"Mianmian said I'm kind and friendly."

"Shut up! Mianmian was obviously praising me!"

"Hmph! You're just jealous that Mianmian and I were once mentally linked."

"What?! You dared to mentally link with Mianmian? Die!"

As Xi Mian wonders whether guides in this novel seem to have a bad impression of sentinels, and whether there's been some misunderstanding, the receptionist bursts into the guidance room in a panic. "This is bad, this is bad! Yeye and Shijia are fighting outside!"

Theme: Face adversity with perseverance and self-reliance.
