Blurb:
[Insectoid anthology] [Beloved young male insect] [Giving a little sweetheart a happy home]
In the year 2056 of the Star Calendar, humanity entered the interstellar age and ushered in a new biotechnology: genetic parenting. It quickly became all the rage after its release, with countless people clamoring for the chance to have a perfect baby.
But the technology was still imperfect, with a failure rate of one in ten thousand every year. These babies weren't perfect at all. Instead, they had all kinds of genetic disorders and were called defective products.
Story One:
Three-and-a-half-year-old Zhenzai was a defective product abandoned by his parents. With difficulty walking, he had stumbled along behind his older brother since he was little, struggling to survive in a chaotic, filthy neighborhood.
But after his brother was badly injured in a fight over food, Zhenzai's life became even harder.
He couldn't fight the other ferocious street children, so he could only limp secretly into the bright, clean neighborhoods, tears welling in his eyes as he hid like a little mouse in a dark street corner. Carefully and reverently, he picked up food that the clean little children, walking hand in hand with their parents, didn't want to eat, and treasured it away in his arms.
But on one cold winter night, Zhenzai curled up trembling in his brother's already-cold embrace and gradually fell silent. At the very last moment before losing consciousness, he made a devout wish toward the brilliant fireworks in the distance.
He wanted a home, a home where he would always have enough to eat and wear.
At the same time, the "Rose of the Empire," Wenlais, widely hailed as the most beautiful insect on the insectoid imperial capital, and his male spouse welcomed a precious male insect egg, to the anticipation of the public.
