Karl is handsome and clever, a high-ranking male insect from a prestigious family, and one of the male insects female insects on the Capital Star most want to marry.
But Karl always observes the virtues expected of a male insect and keeps his distance from female insects, because he's known since childhood that his childhood sweetheart is his fiance. As soon as they come of age, the two of them will get married.
But two things happen on the day he comes of age.
First, he has a dream. In it, Karl sees his fiance, Josie, kissing a male insect. Josie says she loves him like a madman and doesn't want to marry Karl. Their parents forced the engagement on them.
That male insect is someone Karl rescued from the slums.
The male insect looks helpless as he rejects Josie's love, saying he can't betray Karl, the insect who saved his life.
To be with the male insect, Josie frames Karl's family for treason on the wedding day. The entire Karl family is slaughtered by space pirates on the way to their place of exile.
Second, after Karl wakes up, he sleeps with someone he'd always looked down on: his family's sworn enemy.
The next day, Karl and his sworn enemy are caught in bed together.
After waking up, his sworn enemy looks at him expressionlessly and says, "I might be pregnant with your offspring now, so you have to marry me. Otherwise, I'll make sure you can't get out of bed."
Karl: ...
What kind of threat is that? It's not even convincing.
Later, his sworn enemy begs him through tears to stop being so rough, saying he really can't take it anymore. Karl gives him a wicked smile. "That's what you get for threatening me. Hmph!"
In the end, his sworn enemy is the one who can't get out of bed the next day.
Meanwhile, his former fiance is having a miserable time and begs Karl to get back together.
With a big belly, two insect offspring in tow, and an arm around Karl's waist, his sworn enemy firmly tells the former fiance one word: "Get lost!"
