Proxima Centauri, designated Alpha Centauri C under the Bayer designation system, is the star closest to the Solar System, and thus to humanity. It is also the third star in the triple-star system Alpha Centauri. It orbits the binary system formed by A and B as they revolve around each other, creating a three-star system like triplets with two identical siblings and one fraternal sibling
