Livestreaming Infrastructure and Farming for King Zhou

This takes place in a fictional parallel world.

Yan Senyu is preparing to enter the new media industry and plans to livestream farming in ancient times. But Qin Shi Huang is already so popular that plenty of people have covered him. He doesn’t know much about the Han dynasty, the Tang dynasty is doing quite well, the Song dynasty has all kinds of highly advanced crafts, and the Ming dynasty had too many emperors…

So Yan Qingyu sets his sights on the very primitive Shang dynasty and makes a video about its most famous tyrant. To his surprise, it gets an incredible response, so he decides to start his farming livestream in the Shang dynasty!

Di Xin, King Zhou of Shang, accidentally connects to Yan Qingyu’s livestream and is stunned. What kind of divine miracle is this? There are food crops, seeds, airplanes, chariots, and all sorts of inventions, as well as barbecue, food, and shipbuilding. If all he gets called is a tyrant, then let them curse him all they want, as long as he can benefit the people!

Unexpectedly, this livestream System works both ways. Di Xin’s clumsy attempts at farming also attract a crowd of people looking for a laugh, and everyone chimes in with advice in the comments. No one could have imagined that they would actually raise an emperor into a ruler worthy of the throne.

Content warning: This story rehabilitates King Zhou of Shang. He is not the King Zhou from Investiture of the Gods or popular imagination, but the real historical figure. I only discovered that my understanding had been overturned and rebuilt after researching the sources. Thank you for reading.

The Book of Documents records the oath King Wu of Zhou made before attacking Shang: “Raise your halberds, ready your shields, and set your spears upright. I hereby swear an oath.”

The king said: “The ancients said, ‘A hen does not herald the dawn. When a hen heralds the dawn, the family is doomed.’ Now Shang’s King Shou listens only to women’s words. He has carelessly abandoned the sacrifices and does not respond to them. He has carelessly abandoned the descendants of former kings, his fathers and younger brothers, and does not put them to use. Instead, he honors and promotes the many criminals and fugitives from the four quarters. He trusts them and employs them, making them ministers and high officials, so that they may tyrannize the people and commit crimes in the capital of Shang.”
