"Liang Shusheng, be my evergreen tree."

-- September 30, 2012, Lin Yuqing's diary

-

Lin Yuqing has heard many people talk about Liang Shusheng.

They say he comes from a powerful family, is unruly and rebellious, and is both tough and ruthless. He's someone no one should ever provoke.

But Lin Yuqing deliberately gets close to him anyway, during the most miserable days of her life, when her stepfather is harassing her again and again.

She needs his protection, and his influence, so she can ruin her stepfather's reputation.

Late summer, a beach party.

Mountains ring the sea, mist swirls through the air, and society's elite gather.

In a dark, cramped car.

Liang Shusheng asks, "Qing, want to play a game?"

He takes her wrist and guides the web of her hand to his throat, then leans in, allowing her to grip his neck and make it a little hard for him to breathe.

When an ordinary person is granted the power of life and death.

When an ordinary person is lifted onto a king's throne.

"A romance game, or a revenge game?"

He tilts his head, smiling as though he would indulge her without question. "You decide."

Their romance plays out in spectacular fashion.

But no one knows why they suddenly break up, or how they manage to cut ties so completely.

Years pass, and everything has changed.

Lin Yuqing becomes a famous actress who knows how to draw audiences to the box office.

She has a face people never forget, radiant and beautiful yet sharp and fierce, but she's never been linked to any romantic scandal.

Then, while she's promoting her new film, Liang Shusheng appears as its legal consultant, and netizens dig up their past.

Later, a photo emerges. The night the promotion ends, Liang Shusheng stands beneath a lonely, dimly lit eave, lights a cigarette, and watches Lin Yuqing lift the hem of her evening gown and get into a car.

Fans weep and wail, calling them the "gold standard for tragic couples."

Until a surprise livestream interview after an awards ceremony. A reporter knocks on the door.

Lin Yuqing opens it and freezes at the sight of the camera.

Before she can compose herself and greet her fans, a deep, magnetic male voice comes from behind her.

"Why aren't you asleep? Weren't you just begging me, saying your back hurt and you couldn't take it anymore and needed to sleep?"

Then a man appears on screen, bare-chested, his black hair still damp. His features are sharply defined, and there are obvious bite marks on his collarbones, creating an unmistakably intimate sight.

Below his heart is a beautiful ink-wash tree tattoo.

[Ahhhhh, the most tragic ship is suddenly serving up sweetness?!]

[The evergreen tree is real!!!!]
