Everyone in the Jin'an dynasty believed in Buddhism and Daoism. Even the women in the brothels went through the motions of eating vegetarian food and praying to Buddha.
Yuguanyin had just turned fifteen and did not want to spend her whole life as a prostitute. Hoping to escape her madam's grasp, she was rescued by Yun Ling, a young woman whose appearance was startlingly similar to her own.
"We are not related, yet we look like twin sisters. What a wondrous gift from heaven, and what a lovely story it will make!"
Aboard a wooden boat, the girl in crimson spoke to the person beside her, her eyes crinkling with laughter. "Once we reach the capital, I'll reunite with my family and find a place for you by my side! A Yin, you won't have to suffer anymore."
A Yin gazed at the lake and simply smiled. "Thank you, Yun Ling."
A Yin knew that once they finished their journey by water, Yun Ling would soon go to the capital to seek her family and become an official's daughter. She would enjoy boundless wealth and be cherished by her parents.
But Yuguanyin was different. She had grown up in a brothel and had no skills to her name.
They had such similar faces, so why were their fates so different?
So when the tide surged and chaos erupted, Yuguanyin looked at Yun Ling falling into the water and withdrew the hand she had been about to reach out with.
Yuguanyin wanted to try living a bold, dazzling life, too.
.
Seven years later, the peasant woman Yun Ling accidentally hit her head and recalled a memory she had forgotten for many years.
She overcame every obstacle and, despite her husband's protests, insisted on going to the capital.
She was going to take revenge for a wrong that had happened far too long ago.
On the way to the capital, Yun Ling heard tell of the legendary Lady Guanyin.
After years lost outside, she had been found and brought back to the Duke's estate. She had solved one difficult problem after another for the emperor, rescuing the long-declining family estate.
She was close with the princess, who had made an exception and allowed Lady Guanyin to enter and leave the palace, where she was treated with respect.
Later, she married the heir. The couple lived together in perfect harmony, making everyone envious.
Yun Ling thought she would make Yuguanyin return everything she had taken, tenfold, a hundredfold.
Yun Ling would see it through, no matter the cost.
