I Thought We Agreed to Phone It In and Make Short Dramas [Dual Systems]

1. Xi Yan unexpectedly inherits the estate of his great-great-great grandaunt: a million in savings and an entertainment company. He also awakens a golden finger, the Rebate System.

Whenever the company's projects lose money, he gets tenfold his investment back, or even a hundredfold.

Xi Yan: Got it. I'm only one box-office flop away from becoming the richest man in the world. From now on, Starlight Entertainment's motto is: spend the most money to make the worst movies.

This is a world of love and peace. Everyone likes stories about "truth, goodness, and beauty." To lose money, Xi Yan decides to do the opposite. But he seems to have run into a problem: he can't find a lazy director who can help him "strike gold."

2. Pei Guangji, a maverick genius of a director, transmigrates to a parallel world and binds with a golden finger, the All-Around Director System. The more hit shows he makes, the stronger he becomes.

Pei Guangji: Got it. I'm only one stage where I can show what I can do away from becoming the strongest director in the universe.

This is a world of films and TV dramas full of "forced sentimentality," "piling on quotable lines," and "heavy-handed moralizing." So this rebellious director decides to take the road less traveled and announce the arrival of a new era!

However, Pei Guangji seems to run into a few obstacles from the start. In his cramped rental room, he looks at yet another rejected submission and falls into deep thought. Is there really no talent scout in this world who can appreciate his genius?

3. At first, when viewers saw melodramatic short dramas like "Eight Babies at Once: The Overbearing CEO Falls for a Sixty-Year-Old Cleaning Lady, and He Loves Her While She Loves Him," their reaction was: Oh, my eyes! What on earth is this?

Later, they watched a little, then a whole lot more, and realized it was irresistible.

After his money-losing plan fails, Xi Yan reflects deeply. If melodramas won't work, then let's make art films.

His employees: Boss, think this through! Isn't that a bit of a leap?

Xi Yan: Smiles. Exactly. If the leap is that huge, surely we'll lose money this time, right?

Three months later, the financial statements are awash in red.

His employees: The boss is a genius.

Xi Yan: Not happy.

4. When the big spender meets the slacker, when the man who wants to make terrible movies meets the genius, the entertainment industry's sky is about to change.

From the king of short dramas to the queen of art films and the father of suspense films, Xi Yan and Pei Guangji have become the most rebellious couple in history.

They never chase trends. They create them.
