I Only Wanted a Dog

Wanting the company of a little animal, Song Che initially planned to get a dog, but the apartment manager refused.

Later, he entered a fully immersive virtual pet companion game:

Game: Your character is a cool, celibate doctor in a mysterious organization.

Song Che (secretly delighted): Oh, all right.

Game: You will play the role of their caretaker, tending to them, keeping them company, and earning their loyalty.

Song Che: Am I a pet keeper?

The game's mechanical voice was icy: No. You are their creator, and their executioner.

Although Song Che didn't quite understand what the game meant, he had an amazing time raising pets in the virtual world.

Song Che declared: Merfolk can be raised like doggies, dragons can be raised like doggies, robots can be raised like doggies! Open your mind: anything can be a doggie.

Until one day, his little pets started disobeying him and tried to lock Song Che up.

Song Che: You're such bad doggies...

Theme: Companionship is the longest-lasting confession of love.
