Late at night, Zhou Futing got an overseas call from his son, Zhou Shi, and chatted casually with him as if nothing were out of the ordinary.
The shadows of the ceiling light swayed. Zhuang Yu instinctively clutched the belt of his bathrobe, her face stiffening as she momentarily forgot to keep her expression in check.
"You think I didn't know you two dated in college?" After hanging up, Zhou Futing spoke calmly of Zhou Shi. "I merely chose to let it happen."
Zhuang Yu drew a quiet breath and closed her eyes.
She had almost forgotten that the man before her wasn't just someone who had helped and comforted her. He was also her ex-boyfriend's father.
Zhuang Yu suddenly remembered that autumn and winter, when she and Zhou Shi were seniors in high school and their parents had been called in over a suspected romance.
The corridor in the classroom building had been empty and silent.
Zhou Futing stood before them without a word of reproach, glanced down at his watch, and took them out to dinner.
At first, she thought he was a kind elder who would gently guide her. In truth, he was a fathomless whirlpool.
