No one at school knew that Xia Wu lived at Lu Xuze's house.
When Xia Wu first transferred to No. 1 High School, sleazy guys harassed her because she was so pretty. Since her friends were a bunch of good-for-nothings and her grades were a mess, people said she'd deliberately seduced those boys.
Xia Wu didn't care what people said. If she wanted to brag that she belonged to Lu Xuze, all those girls would die of jealousy.
But to help Lu Xuze maintain his good-boy image, she never spoke to him at school. Even when they ran into each other, she pretended not to know him.
After all, he was the top student in his grade, a model student in every way. If he hung around with a good-for-nothing troublemaker like her, people would gossip.
Then one day, Lu Xuze suddenly stopped talking to Xia Wu. When she went to him with questions, he turned her away. They really became nothing more than ordinary, unfamiliar roommates.
Not understanding what was going on, Xia Wu was so annoyed that she stopped talking to him too.
After things stayed that way for several days, Lu Xuze came to see her. With a cold expression, he asked, "Is it so embarrassing to know me?"
Xia Wu thought he was being ridiculous and curtly said no.
"Then what did you tell those people last Friday night?"
"What did I say?" Xia Wu genuinely couldn't remember.
Lu Xuze was furious. He tossed out, "You're something else," then turned and left.
Their relationship soured until a boy sent her a photo to provoke Lu Xuze, claiming he was dating Xia Wu.
That afternoon, Lu Xuze dragged Xia Wu away from the ice rink, got into an argument with the guy in an alley, and started a fight.
Everyone thought a model student like Lu Xuze wouldn't fight, but no one expected him to hit so hard that the guy couldn't get back up.
When Xia Wu finally came to her senses, she took him by the hand and led him away.
At the alley's entrance, she heard him say, "Stop hanging out with them. Hang out with me."
And later, that's exactly what she did.
People at school were baffled. What had gotten into Xia Wu? She suddenly started studying, and her monthly exam scores kept improving until, in just one semester, she went from the remedial class to Class A.
Until a video surfaced...

And Lu Xuze did far more than that. When Xia Wu realized something was up, she didn't try to hide it. A few days later, she confronted him directly, only to be rejected.
Xia Wu was mortified and didn't want to talk to him anymore. For a long time afterward, she avoided him, stopped listening to him, and started hanging out with that crowd of good-for-nothings again.
On the night she skipped the arts festival, Lu Xuze went to catch her.
In the hallway, Xia Wu yanked her hand away from his and yelled at him.
Lu Xuze didn't get angry. He just moved closer, holding himself back, his voice restrained. "Be good, okay?"
Xia Wu refused. A curse was on the tip of her tongue.
Then she noticed the ominous air around Lu Xuze. His eyes were as black as ink, fixed on a few people hiding in the shadows and spying on them in their No. 1 High School uniforms.
