A short story I wrote a while ago. Comments and corrections are welcome.

"General, why don't you get married?"

"On the battlefield, swords and arrows have no eyes. I might be buried there any day. Would you want some young woman to become a widow?"

Hearing her beloved general joke around with the customers at the teahouse, Manzhu felt a pang in her heart.

She knew that by entrusting all his belongings to her in the name of friendship, the general had already made up his mind to die in battle.

But she didn't know that in his heart, he already considered her his wife. He simply didn't want to ruin her life by making her his wife in name.

General, if there is another life, let us meet in a peaceful time, beneath warm spring skies and in a world at rest.

*The story has been carefully expanded, and I plan to polish it further. The first draft was written in March 2020, and I have a screenshot.
