"Wanwan, did you ever love me?"
"Never."
"You are clearly a wild rose, made to wound me."
"Then I'll sacrifice myself to the rose."
He curled his lips into a smile and slashed his wrist with a dagger. Blood soaked the roses on the ground, making them look hauntingly beautiful.
-
Yu Guiwan was known as the little rose of North City: coldly beautiful, arrogant, the only daughter of her family, and a spoiled young heiress.
At a party, someone set a trap to lure her in. "Little Rose, someone says even the young master of the Ji family in North City can't win you over!"
Yu Guiwan lounged on the sofa, languid and carefree, a cigarette held between her long fingers. She gave a cold snort. "Ji Yanli? I can have him wrapped around my finger in three months, tops."
"Oh? But if you fall in love with him, you lose."
She flashed a bold smile. "That won't happen."
What Yu Guiwan never knew was that Ji Yanli had already fallen into an unconscious state. She stayed by his side as his caregiver, tending to him with great care.
After he woke up, she pulled out all the stops to flirt with him, and in the end, she succeeded in making Ji Yanli fall in love with her.
Ji Yanli was the man she had rescued and lovingly cared for.
-
At another party, she raised her chin proudly and arrogantly. "I did it in three months."
Someone asked, "Little Rose, have you fallen in love with Ji Yanli? He's so elegant and handsome. What woman wouldn't love him?"
Her cheeks turned pink. She took a deep drag on her cigarette and, surrounded by swirling smoke, protested, "How could I? I would never fall for a man in a wheelchair."
-
Later, the man stood in the pouring rain and asked her in near despair, "Wanwan, did you never love me, not even a little?"
Her voice was firm. "Never."
The man laughed coldly. "You shouldn't be called Little Rose. You're clearly a wild rose, cold-hearted and arrogant! If you didn't love me, why come after me?"
In the rain, he picked up a dagger and held it out to her. "Stab me."
She shook her head in fright.
"You don't even dare do that? And you still came after me? Wanwan, I've spoiled you far too much!"
"Then I'll sacrifice myself to the rose!" He curled his lips into a smile and slashed his wrist with the dagger. Blood stained the rose he had meant to give her.
"Wanwan, if you didn't love me, why did you... come after me..."
His voice grew fainter and fainter, until it could no longer be heard.
-
Later, someone asked Yu Guiwan, "Did you really never love Ji Yanli? He told you not to smoke, and you haven't smoked in all these years."
She stared indifferently out the window at the heavy snow. "The truth is, I had already fallen for him. I was just too proud back then to admit that I'd lost that game."
The rose had fallen in love long ago.
