The Return-to-the-City Foil [The 1970s]

Xu Hui had a first half of life so smooth it made others envious. Her parents doted on her, her family was harmonious, and her husband had a stable job at a research institute. They shared everything with each other and lived a happy life.

She treasured this happiness, but fate played a cruel joke on her.

A prophetic dream told her that the happiness of her first twenty-odd years was meant to inspire her cousin's ambition and yearning. For the next forty years, her family would be destroyed, her husband and child would leave her, and her loved ones would die one by one. She would end her days miserable and alone, all to prove that her cousin had made the right choice and was the one destined for happiness.

She was just a cannon-fodder character, spending her whole life as a foil to her cousin, whose success she helped make possible.

Xu Hui had never been ambitious, asking only for her family to be safe and happy. Furious, she sat bolt upright, waking from her coma!

But when she opened her eyes again, three years had already passed, and the scenes from her dream had come true one by one. Her cousin had returned to the city after the college entrance exam, married, and had a child. Her life was thriving.

As for Xu Hui, her husband had been imprisoned indefinitely, and her child had gone missing without a trace...
